Privacy notice

What we collect on this website, and why.

This notice covers this website and the join form on it. The details you give us are held to coordinate the movement's own activity. They are not sold, transferred or handed to third parties.

Who we are

UpNorth Ambassadors is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. We are based in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.

What we collect

We collect only what you type into the join form: your name, email address, telephone number, the state and, if you give it, the LGA or ward you organise in, how you want to be involved, and anything you choose to tell us about your organising experience and your community. An organisation name is optional and only relevant if you are writing on behalf of one.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles of visitors. Our servers keep standard request logs, which include IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.

Why we use it

  • To reply to you, and to route your message to the coordinators organising in your state
  • To coordinate the movement’s own activity where you have asked to take part in it
  • To keep a record of messages we have received and answered
  • To protect the site against abuse and automated submissions

Our lawful basis is your consent in submitting the form, and our legitimate interest in responding to the people who contact us and keeping the site secure.

What we do not do

Coordinator and volunteer details are held for coordinating the movement’s own activity. They are not sold, transferred or handed to third parties. We do not add you to a marketing list without asking, and we do not use what you send us to build political profiles of any kind. We collect no religious, ethnic, health or biometric data, and we hold no individual political profiles of private citizens: commitments we make across the whole movement, not only on this website.

How long we keep it

Messages are retained for as long as the conversation is live and for a reasonable period afterwards, and then deleted. Where you go on to coordinate or volunteer, your contact details are held for as long as you are organising with us and deleted when you tell us you have stopped. Request logs are kept for a short operational period only.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to our use of it. Contact us using the details on the join page and we will respond within the statutory period.

You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe we have handled your data improperly.
